First of all we wanted to show you our room, which is the smallest room of the hotel:(.

Now over to one of the greater things about NYC – shopping – there’s a whole lot of shopping opportunities in NYC, there’s vintage stuff from the 80’s, but also the newest collection from Yeezy.

We thought that Times Square was the place to go, you know the place where there’s stores all around, Batman and Superman cosplayers that want to scam you for a picture, buuut no, the good stuff for us were in a place called Soho, which we thought were where our parents got drunk in Holbæk – but Soho was crazy, there were stores like Supreme, Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Stone Island, Round Two and a whole lot more. Soho is also a multicultural place where you can find Chinatown and Little Italy for example. That’s shows us that NYC don’t judge, even for a pair of white guys like ourselves.

In an era when pretty much anything can be two-day-shipped to your house and high streets in major cities around the world are lined with a lot of the same storefronts, the point of shopping in real life seems increasingly unnecessary. But once in a while, you walk into a store that feels like a genuine discovery, where browsing the shelves and racks stocked with things you can’t find anywhere else is an activity in itself. Beyond the Zara-fied scrums of Soho and 5th Avenue, New York City is still filled with these kinds of places—in fact, we could go on forever listing hundreds of nice shops, from a showroom that specializes in animal skulls to an emporium devoted entirely to high-end buttons. But here, we tried to distill it down to a top 5.

5. Flight Club – A sneaker shop that have a whole of sneakers, in fact all sneakers that you could dream of, but it was very pricey, and the staff was kinda rude. If you want to visit, the address is – 812 Broadway.

4. Modell’s Sporting Goods – A sports shop with clothing, shoes and accessories. Not pricey at all but the staff were slow and it was extremely hot in there. If you want to visit, the address is – 845 3rd Ave.

3. Stadium Goods – Also a sneaker shop, also with all the sneakers of your dreams, the staff were nice and the shoes were not as pricey. If you want to visit, the address is – 47 Howard Street.

2. Stone Island – A fashion/designer store with all their newest collections but also their older, not as pricey collections, the staff was very cool, so yeah all around a nice experience. If you want to visit, the address is – 41 Green Street

1. Round Two/Round Two Vintage – Everything was absolutely perfect, the stores are both resell stores which means that it’s a secondhand store, which means that it was not as pricey as if you wanted to buy the stuff from a retail store. The staff was cool and helpful. If you want to visit, the address is – 113 Stanton Street.

On day three, Buster, Simon, Daniel, Nordlund and August, went to see New York Islanders play against Montreal Canadiens. This season Islanders is doing very good, they are in the top of the East America part of the Stanley cup. So this was a very important game for them, as they needed the points to stay there. When we first saw the Barclays center our jaws dropped. The arena was the biggest icehockey arena any of us had ever seen.

Islanders was off to a very bad start. They missed all of their shots and kept making off-sides. Islanders were looking tired and unmotivated while Canadiens looked very motivated and dangerous.

Bang, one goal, bang two goals. The defense was asleep. Just like Simon who apparantly just “rested his eyes” under the first period of play. BUT then, what we all had been hoping for happened. The gloves were dropped and a fight broke out on the ice between Lee and Folin. It happened so fast, and it was over just as fast. But we were all happy that we had seen a fight.

The rest of first period was a diasaster for Islanders. In the last 5 minutes, one of the playmakers from Islanders was hit with an illegal tackle from a Canadiens player. The player got a two minute penalty, therefore Islanders was now in powerplay, which means that they are 5 on 4, which is a massive advantage. But Islanders attack was stopped by a Canadiens player who quickly passes the puck to a teammate, and the teammate scored to 3-0.

Second period

Islanders looked much better in the second period.

Third period

After 17 seconds into the third period Islanders scorer and the arena erupted, but after a replay the goal was canceled. Then after 6 minutes in the third period Brock Nelson scored the first goal for the islanders and the arena once again erupted. Just 10 minutes later the Canadiens scores again and the fans starts to boo the Islanders players, and just a minute after the Canadiens goal the Islanders scores their second goal, but you could sense it was too little too late to win the game, and right so the Islanders pulled the goalie and the Canadiens scored the last goal of the game. After the last goal we walked out to get the subway before everyone else because the game was decided at that point. The game finished 6-2 with the win to the Canadiens.

Gruesome injury

In the third period New York Islanders player Johnny Boychuk got a gruesome injury when he got hit in the face by Montreal Canadiens player Artturi Lehkonen’ skate blade. Ice hockey players doesn’t normally cry, but you could see he was really in pain because of his twists and turns down on the ice. And to prevent the ice from being covered in blood he was fast to get up and run into the locker room. He was finished for the game.

The match ended 6-2

After our lunch at Chinatown, we headed towards Brooklyn and Williamsburg for some more adventure. 

However, the weather wasn’t quite with us.

It was raining wildly when we were going to Brooklyn Bridge. Some of us had bought some umbrellas, others went with their hoodies. It took us about 20 min to walk to Brooklyn Bridge from Chinatown

When you walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, you can see the Statue of Liberty. When we were there we almost couldn’t see the statue because it was raining and it was foggy. But one could still take some good pictures of her.

While we were halfway across the bridge some of us couldn’t handle the weather and headed home, we split up and others were going to the hockey game.

About nine of us went to Williamsburg which was a so-called “Hipster community”. It was much quieter than downtown Manhattan.  

When you are in Williamsburg, you quickly realize the huge amount of shops and cafés around the neighborhood. Most of them sell everything from old books to vintage clothes, even tibetan merchandise. 

After a little bit of shopping, coffee breaks and strolling around Williamsburg we headed to a food market at Grand Central station to get something to eat.

The food was amazing and when you walked in the court you got hit by all kinds of delicious, fragrant smell of food ranging from korean, italian, modern american and everything in between, a cozy way to end the day.  

After the museum we went on a trip to Central Park. At the park we saw lots of squirrels and we saw the beautiful view of New York City.

After Central Park we went towards the Guggenheim Museum, and then we got spare time. We started shopping at Ulta Beauty, and after that we took the Subway to Macy’s.

We met Johan, Julie and Freja at the mall. We shopped a lot, and everybody loved it! – Especially Johan.

After we finished shopping, we started looking for dinner. A mysterious man followed us down some streets and we got very scared. After we got rid of the man, we finally got food. We ate at Five Guys, where the food was absolutely amazing and delicious.

After a long day, we walked back to the hotel.

After WallStreet we had spare time, which we used on taking the Subway to Times Square. We kept getting lost, and took the same subway back and forward again and again

Finally! After Being stuck for about an hour on different trainstations, we finally reached our destination TIMES SQUARE

After being at Times Square for less than 2 minutes, we met a lady dressed up as the Cookie Monster. She asked if we had heard about an app called TikTok. We immediately said yes, and then she wanted us to be in her TikTok video.. and no words needed…

This lady had 270.000 followers, and we promised to give her a shoutout, so go follow Lauraliberty on TikTok! She apperently had a lot of friends in the same buisness that she wanted us to meet.

Then after a little chitchat, we wanted to go shopping. We sadly had to take the subway again. We still had trouble finding out which subway to take and ended up being lost again. But at the end we reached our destination. We had some dinner and went to target.

After going to target we really wanted to go home. But.. we got lost again. 😐 this time we kept taking the wrong subways in the wrong directions. As you can see, everyone was pissed at each other (except Emma)

Then we finally came home after an exhausting day in New York. And we lived happily ever after❤️ goodnight From Room 829.

Today was the day we went to the 9/11 memorial with a guided tour. Our tour guides name was James, who has experienced 9/11, and even lost people he cared about in the process.

James gave us a background story for his experience during 9/11. He Said there was three stages in understanding 9/11, and the whole essens of being a New Yorker doing that time. First thing was that people in New York experiences lots of loss. You can know people one day, and then they could just disappear the next.

When we got to the freedom tower (a rebuilt contruction of the twin Towers).The freedom tower had a more specific look because of it’s edges. James explained to us that it’s a symbol of the Two Towers combined in one. It almost looks like they are twisted around eachother.

Next up was “the oculus”, which is right next to the freedom tower. When you are inside of this incredible building and you look up, you can see the freedom tower through the glas in the ceiling, like you see it from the eye.

At the 9/11 memorial, James showed us the old twin towers and the names of people who lost their lives during 9/11, which really was an eyeopener!

We learned that if it’s one of the victims birthday, there will be a white rose by his or her name.

The tour came to and end, and we attend to 9/11 museum, and it was an experience of its own. So many people died during 9/11, and the museum was a really good way of show honor and respect to the once who died. You could see the faces of those who lost their lives, and it wasn’t allowed to take any photos, but is was so sad and nerve racking to see all those people who lost their lives.

Everyone arrived at the airport 10.45. Then we startet getting ready and made our way through passport and bagage control. Afterwards, we walked around in different stores and bought food and snacks before the flight because we had around 2 hours to spare. Everyone was waiting at the gate around 13, and then we boarded the plane around 14. The planeride to Amsterdam was pretty calm and only lastet 1 hour and 25 minutes, the plane served wraps and drinks and it was a pleasent ride.

we arrived at Amsterdam at 15:30 as a quick stopover. to be perfectly candor nothing of interest happened here. after we board the big KLM plane with 10 seats across we spent our 8 hour flight on either sleeping, watching something, eating something or playing something. the flight was long but okay. nothing of interest really happened here either. it was just a long and mediocre flight. but. when we landed in JFK airport in NYC. that was when shit got real. we were all walking from the plane towards the boarder control when we saw that we had to allegedly wait for about 60 minutes. we all sighed but there was nothing we could do about it. after waiting for about 60 minutes and having only moved about 2-3 lanes in the zigzag line we got not only concerned but also frustrated. however. this was long from over. minutes and hours were passing by and almost all of us had to pee and we were all weary from the flight. in the end we find ourselves one by one collecting by the baggage claims about 3 hours later. after this horrifying first hand impression of NYC we took a bus towards our hostel. upon arrival we were all handed our keycards and then we went to drop off our bags to quickly go back down so we could take a tour towards grand central station to get our metrocards in order. after this ordeal we went to wendy’s for some quick dinner. not long thereafter the time was almost 00:30 am so we didn’t have any time to spare so we went directly to the hotel and then to bed
