On the fourth day of our New York journey, we went to see the Tenement Museum, located a bit far from the Manhattan we had experienced the last few days. You could easily see how the buildings were different from the Midtown skyline
In the museum we learned about how the immigrants in this neighborhood lived in periods from the middle of the 1800 and until 1930’s. In this period, there would be around 7,000 different residents in this particular building, that was the museum. We saw the recreated homes of two immigrant families. One family from before the tenements were required to have running water and gas lines, and one family from after.
After we finished our tour at the museum, we went to see China Town, and get something to eat. China Town appeared more as a cultural community than a tourist attraction.
It seemed like we were the only tourist around. Perhaps the weather condition kept people away. Or the coronavirus did… Inspite that, we got something to eat.
